"We ARE a reference"
THE CHALLENGE: Ben came to me approximately halfway through seventh grade. He attends a local e-learning institute and is AuDHD. His parents were looking for consistent, once-a-week support to help him navigate the demands of online learning. Ben and I meet weekly to review his classwork and homework, clarify confusing instructions, and make sure he understands both the assignments and the expectations attached to them. Our sessions provide structure, accountability, and a place for him to ask questions without feeling rushed. During the summer, we have also been reading and discussing his assigned novels so that he can begin the upcoming school year with greater familiarity, confidence, and comprehension.
THE END RESULT: Ben has developed a reliable weekly support system that helps him approach his coursework with greater clarity and preparation. His parents have increased our time together to 90 minutes a week and have renewed my services for the upcoming school year. They are also considering enrolling their older child for ACT preparation. When I asked if they needed references for the ACT work, Dad replied, "We ARE a reference!"
